We, as a hygiene team, want to provide our patients with the best care possible. Utilizing our skills and knowledge, we will share information with you, our paients so you can have the opportunity to make the choices that will allow you to be as helathy as you want to be.
We are excited to implement our new dental fitness program to our practice. You are invited to take part in this program to measure the health of your gums at your next teeth cleaning appointment. The Dental Fitness Program works like this:
- The pocket depths of your gums are measured, which is the best
method of detecting early gum disease.
- Your bleeding points are calculated, which will show us any active gum disease.
|
This dental fitness program will be used to share with you the status of your oral health, so together with Dr. Seguin and your hygienist, you will be able to choose the best approach to bring your mouth to its healthiest state.
| We have a new weapon to fight gum disease! It is an antibiotic in powder form called Arestin. Arestin can be placed into a periodontal (gum) pocket that is 5mm or greater, Normally, this tetracycline derivative is placed when we perform Scaling and Root Planing (a deep cleaning). It is one of the most potent antibiotics and is proven to be very effective in eradicating bacteria in the periodontal pocket, Arestin stays in the periodontal pocket for 14 days. In clinical studies, pocket depths were reduced by at least 2mm. |

The importance of Dental Health throughout your lifetime
You are never too young or too old for good dental health. Start children on a regular schedule of dentist visits and continue for a lifetime, to keep your teeth, gums and complete dental health in tip top shape.
Besides regularly scheduled appointments to care for your teeth, there is much you can do to ensure optimum dental health. Diet and exercise play an important role in your overall health. Eating fruits, vegetables and natural, fresh foods and drinking water help keep your body and your teeth in shape. Avoid sugary snacks and drinks, and when you do opt for a special treat, be sure to brush afterwards!
As you know, we recommend brushing after every meal and flossing once a day. Take care of your teeth now, and be blessed with good dental health for a lifetime. |
